Melur Edathil Sree MahaDevi Temple is located in Melur village,at Dharmadam amsam of Thalassery thalook, Kannur district  and it is 7 Km from Thalasserry town and 20 km frm Kannur District. Here the main Idols of worship  are Sree Maha Lakshmi , Sree Kuttichathan, Sree Gulikan, and Nagadavi. Melur Edathil Sree Mahadevi temple  is a Soul relieving centre for those who are best on their devoition.

This temple is privately owned by Sri. P.K.Bhaskaran Retd.A.E.O. The origin of this temple is estimated 17th century , but it was not known about the festival of the temple, or the idols worshiped in this temple from ancestors. But it had been believed that Kaliyattam of some Devans had been performed here some 100 years ago.  The temple is in a limited space with just a Sree kovil and the main idol  Sree Mahalakshmi’s statue  is in the form of sitting on a lotus and in the adjoining room there is the symbol of the idol Sree Kuttichathan.( a form of Sasthappan) In the south east corner is  the place for the symbol of Gulikan and South west there is ‘Naga Devada’.

This temple has been renovated recently by the owner. Punchayil Kannan Surveyor (father of Sri. P.K. Bhaskanran) owned this plot some 85 years ago . At that time this Edathil place was an isolated plot and theremaining of this temple were at the centre of this site. Sri. P.K. Bhaskaran  got this plot with  the remainings of an old temple as  his share after the partition of Edathil family. He built his house behind this temple and started living there from 4th June 1990. Till that time only the Edathil family members and few neighbours offered prayers here during evening time.  Earlier it was considered that the main idol is only KUTTICHATHAN and was un atteneded for years. According to sri Bhaskaran various instances prompted him for the renovation of the temple. ‘ He remember Sri Kottan Nair  who became a friend of sri Bhaskaran by chance . Sri Kottan nair is a well known 'thanthrik' and sculpture in the Malabar area.  He agreed to help Sri. Bhaskaran in building this temple and he spent his precious time and knowledge for this venture. Sree P.K. Bhaskaran and his family beared all the expenditure for the renovation of this  temple as a devotion. The reconstruction of the temple was honoured and the ' Prathishta karama' was done by Brahma sree Madavana Subrhamanyaian Namboodiri on 19th June 1996 at 7.30 am .

Every year there will be festival to  commemorate the ‘Prathishta day” between March and April and the festival begins with the enlightening of  temple’s main lamp by Brahma sree Madavana Subramanyan Namboodiri and he performs the Main Karma and Pooja during this occasion.   Sri.Bhaskaran consulted with various  ‘Thanthrik’ & Jyothishi’s for this function and the prominent one among these Thanthrik are Sree Kadoor Kesavan Namboodiri. He blessed sri. Bhaskaran and provided him with a precious and holy prayer book, various rituals, the 'Manthras'  and 'Pooja vidhi'.  Now this temple is attracting devotees even from far areas. Those  people who are satisfied with the devotion to this temple spread the message of 'Bhakthi  and Belief' and their number is increasing day by day. Another important person to remember is Sri. Vijayan Nambiar of Edakkad who is a famous astrologer and he gave all advices whenever sri. Bhaskaran is required for the 'Prathishta'.
